Heartbreaking photos show a malnourished baby wailing in hunger as he is treated at a clinic in Syria

These newly released tragic photos shows the moment an infant suffering from severe malnutrition was taken to a clinic in the rebel-controlled town of Hamouria, a city in war-torn Syria, on Saturday.

The age of the child hasn't been determined, but doctors recorded a weight of just four pounds (1.9kg) for the baby - one of many suffering from the consequences of the Syrian conflict that began seven years ago.

The conflict has killed hundreds of thousands of people, made more than half of Syria's population homeless and created the world's worst refugee crisis. More photos below.
